POP UP Photography Exhibition, Spoken Word & Art in Transit
City Arts Portsmouth CIC presents Between the Stops, a citywide poetry and photography project placing creative work by people connected to Portsmouth into everyday public spaces across the city.

Many of the participating artists are local residents who regularly use the city’s transport network, drawing on personal experiences of movement, waiting, commuting and arrival. By placing work in familiar locations, the project invites people to encounter art as part of daily life rather than needing to visit a gallery. Visitors are invited to add their voice too, by completing one of the 'This is My Stop Postcards'', with their own poetry and reflections on the exhibition.

As Portsmouth marks 100 years since gaining city status, Between the Stops forms part of the Portsmouth100 celebrations, sharing creative voices in spaces used by the whole community.
From 28 February to 15 March, a pop-up exhibition of photographic works will take place at the Hard Interchange, open Thursday to Sunday, 11am–3pm.

Poems from the project are currently displayed on buses across Portsmouth until mid-March. A short spoken-word performance will also take place on Saturday 14 March, 1pm–1.30pm at the Hard Interchange.

Between the Stops - Drawing In Transit

Fridays during the exhibition also be an opportunity for you visit the Photography exhibition and meet Artists Colin Merrin who will be making observational drawings of people in transit.
• Karl Rudziak will be drawing at the Hard Interchange on Friday 6 March
• Colin Merrin will be drawing at the Hard Interchange on Friday 13 March

Both Karl and Colin explore human interaction and perception. Karl works through portraiture and community engagement, examining identity and social attitudes, while Colin often begins with written language, using words as a catalyst for his paintings. Both are established professional artists based in Portsmouth, with work exhibited nationally and internationally.

“Between the Stops is a wonderful reminder that public transport is more than a way of getting around, it is a shared space where people, stories and communities meet. As Cabinet Member for Transport, I’m proud to support a project that brings creativity into the heart of our transport network and celebrates the everyday journeys that connect our city.”
