POSE 2024
POSE 2024 has come to a close, and we’re pleased to report that it was an incredibly successful event for Portsmouth’s creative community. Over the course of the weekend, 152 artists across 34 venues opened their doors. From home studios to galleries, music venues and community centres, POSE affirmed Portsmouth’s position as a destination for the arts, in all its forms - music, dance, spoken word, performance, painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, installations, ceramics and more.

A Resounding Success!
This year’s event saw artists engaging directly with their audience, over 30,000 visits to artists recorded, generating sales, commissions, and invaluable connections. For visitors, the opportunity to see art in the spaces where it is created or to get to talk with practitioners about their work, offered a unique insight into the creative process. The variety on display meant there was truly something for everyone.
Some standout moments included:
-
Live Performances and Workshops: Interactive sessions such as Jamie O’Neil’s street portraits and Olana Light’s wearable sculpture performance were particularly well-received.
-
Casemates Recording Studios was a fantastic arts and music fusion with 13 acts performing over the weekend.
-
Having artists in the north of Portsea Island, was also a big step in making the arts more accessible to those in that area. Something we would like to see grow in the future.
-
Pre-POSE at The Box Gallery before the main POSE weekend, created a buzz and increased awareness of the event.
-
The generosity of artists, galleries, the Historic Dockyard and businesses such as Poole House Studios in adopting artists and hosting those who didn't have a viable space to show from.
-
New Connections: Artists reported productive conversations with visitors, leading to collaborations and opportunities that extended beyond the event itself.
-
The Corner Collective have been instrumental in both supporting POSE and helping us create a new initiative, which, we hope to launch in the very near future that will benefit artist mentors and young people in our community.

The Future
We would love to see all of our communities represented through the arts and we know there are still a number of artists out there who we would like to welcome to take part in POSE 2025, please get in touch if you have questions we would love to hear from you.
Learning and Improving
As with any large-scale event, there’s room for refinement. While feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, we recognise areas where we can improve, using the information from the feedback forms sent out, as well as the valuable input from participants and visitors will be an essential part of shaping POSE 2025.
Thank You
We extend our gratitude to everyone who made this event possible: the artists who opened their doors, the venues that hosted, the volunteers who gave their time, and the visitors who supported the local arts scene. This collaboration is at the heart of what makes POSE so impactful.Planning for POSE 2025 is already underway. Together, we can build on this year’s success and continue to champion the creative community in Portsmouth.
