Every Friday, City Arts Portsmouth hosted our Drop-In Art Group, an open, informal space for anyone who wanted to explore materials, try new techniques, or simply enjoy making work alongside others. The session ran each week at The John Pounds Centre Library and welcomed people of all ages and abilities.
The group offered a calm place to experiment with drawing, print, collage, and mixed media. People can work independently or join in with the materials on offer. With no pressure to produce anything specific—just the chance to slow down, create, and meet others in a supportive setting.
Each session shaped by curiosity and conversation. Some came to develop their practice; others come for company, confidence, or a break from the week. Everyone was welcomed as always.
The Drop-In Group formed part of our wider commitment to creativity and well-being in the community. By offering accessible, regular sessions, we hope to make space for people to discover what art can do for them—whether that’s expression, learning, connection, or simply the pleasure of making.
