Community Engagement
City Arts presents the Community Gallery Project, showcasing the work of creative groups based at the John Pounds Centre. These groups—Art4Life, Craft, Chat & Chill, the WEA painting group, and the Society of St. James creative group—bring together 39 participants each week. People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds contribute, making this a true reflection of our community.
The project is displayed in the John Pounds Centre, a place that serves both these groups and the wider local community. By sharing their work, we aim to inspire visitors and encourage more people to get involved in creative activities.
The centrepiece of the project is a permanent gallery wall where the groups’ artwork is displayed. The frames are updated regularly, creating an ongoing showcase of the talent and perspectives within our community.
The project also brings people together. Group members collaborate on curating their work, supporting each other through the process. Families and friends are invited to join the celebrations, making it an inclusive event for everyone involved.
This project is supported by The Partnership Foundation, whose funding has helped bring it to life. Their focus on community engagement matches our aim to create spaces where people connect and express themselves through art.
