6@The Warehouse

We teamed up with The John Pounds Centre to host an exhibition in the historic Treadgolds Warehouse, a building first used in 1863 and now managed by The John Pounds Community Trust The warehouse’s rich history and character made it the perfect setting for this collaboration.

The exhibition, *6@The…*, brought together six Portsmouth-based artists—Pete Codling, Chris Wood, Lesley Bushell, Laura Browne, Matt Smith, and Gavin Hodson—for their first group project. Each artist drew from the warehouse’s unique atmosphere, its history, and the objects within it to create work that reflected their personal interpretations of the space.

Over three days, 286 people visited the exhibition, immersing themselves in the art and the stories it told. For the artists, the warehouse was a source of inspiration and a key part of the creative process.

The project began with the artists exploring the space, taking photographs, and engaging with its history. Their ideas developed through shared studio time, conversations over coffee, meals, and even the occasional beer. This collaboration was about creating art—but as always with City Arts Portsmouth, it was about building relationships, supporting each other, and laying the groundwork for future group exhibitions that celebrate Portsmouth’s art scene.

This is just the beginning for the "6@The… " or our "@The" series of art exhibitions. each one a differnt mix or perhaps the reiterations to the same stimulus. watch this space to see how this event grows, pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to connect with the community through art.
