Working in ceramic, my practice aims to celebrate the everyday, the nostalgic and shared moments. There are two veins to my work - still life and figurative. The former is rooted in capturing and mimicking small scenes and remnants of interaction between people and spaces; often the messy leftovers, usually cleared away. These moments and memories are rendered in detail, pushing the unpredictable and precarious nature of ceramics to create a still moment in time. The latter, a response to how we present ourselves to the world. Focusing mainly on women, both today and those who came before us, this work investigates societal expectations of beauty, youth and status. Whilst simultaneously recognising the lure of aesthetic details.
Dividing my time between creating functional wares and larger sculptural pieces, working in a 3D format allows me to realise concepts in a tangible way, building connections to reality and at times the metaphorical.
