I TELL AMELIA

As a textile artist it is the material that first inspires what I will make. I love to play with colour and storytelling, while creating joyful, useful objects to give new life to discarded fabrics, such as my baskets and notebooks. My artwork is often inspired by protest banners and song lyrics, and gives me an opportunity to alchemise my experiences into something tangible. All the fabric I use is reclaimed and second hand, and I try to create as little waste as possible - so much fabric is sent to landfill every day already. The tiniest pieces make their way into badges, which are also inspired by chants, affirmations, and slogans. Hand sewing is always my preference, with its slow, low impact nature.
